If you place heavy furniture on the rug, we recommend placing rug pads on the legs of the furniture to distribute the pressure of the weight of the furniture on the rug.
Conservation and maintenance guide
Extend the life of your rug
With proper and regular maintenance, your rug can be kept in optimum condition and look impeccable for many years to come. In general, the rugs that require the most care are light-coloured or monochrome rugs, as well as those with lower density, which are thinner; on the other hand, those with greater consistency or with dark and/or patterned shades are easier to care for. In any case, it is advisable to avoid shaking and whipping them when cleaning them, as well as aggressive treatments that can damage their fibres. Cotlin recommends vacuum cleaning (using the specific function for carpets) and following the instructions below.
General maintenance and preventive measures
01
Rug pads
02
Turning the rug
Turn the rug regularly So that the weights do not always lie on the same points of the rug.
03
Vacuum cleaning
Regular vacuuming will help to remove loose fibres.
Specific instructions for use
01
Receiving a new rug
On receipt of the new carpet, remove it immediately from its packaging to prevent moisture accumulation.
02
Peeling
In general, all rugs made of yarn will lose fibres. This is inherent to any yarn. This phenomenon should decrease over time. he period of time for the peeling to subside will vary depending on the yarn, between 6 and 24 months, depending on the intensity of use and the frequency of cleaning.
03
Use of underline
Recommended if no heavy objects are to be placed on the carpet to avoid shifting.
04
Effect of exposure to light, discoloration.
ibres, like any other natural material, are particularly sensitive to changes in colour due to the effect of UV rays. Prolonged exposure of rugs to sunlight can lead to a fading effect. In areas of direct sunlight, we recommend the use of curtains or glass with sunscreen to prevent fading and premature ageing of the rug.
To avoid alterations of the total or partial colouring of the rug’s surface, it is very important to rotate, turn and reposition the rug every two months. Especially when there is furniture or items on the rug that may leave marks or signs of minor discolouration.
On the other hand, in tufting carpets, the backing has absolutely no aggressive effect on the floor on which it rests.
05
Ageing
Like any other material, rug will age over time. We recommend turning the rug over periodically to achieve a regular ageing process.
06
Use over underfloor heating
For polypropylene and latex backings, it is recommended not to cover more than 70% of the floor surface (carpet backing). For synthetic jute and latex backings (carpet), this is not a problem, and they are conductive, which does not reduce the effectiveness of radiant heaters. In both cases, we recommend spraying the carpet or rug with water to keep the fibres moisturised.
07
Size deviations
Some Cotlin rugs are handmade. Their shape and size may vary slightly. We recommend not to align the carpet with straight floor seams. Their shape and size may vary slightly.
